Position Overview
Burgin Independent School District is seeking a strong, student-focused leader to serve as Principal of Grades 6–12. This role is responsible for leading secondary instructional systems, ensuring academic rigor, and preparing students for graduation and postsecondary success.
The 6–12 Principal plays a critical role in shaping curriculum, supporting teachers, monitoring student progress, and maintaining a safe, structured, and high-performing learning environment aligned to the district’s mission:

Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership & Academic Systems

Lead all curriculum and instructional decisions for grades 6–12

Ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment across middle and high school

Oversee course offerings, graduation requirements, and academic programming

Support implementation of high-quality instructional resources and strategies

Coordinate new teacher mentoring and instructional support
Instruction & Staff Leadership

Conduct all 6–12 certified staff evaluations

Support teachers through coaching, feedback, and professional development

Ensure pacing and calendar alignment across grade levels and content areas
-
Foster a collaborative culture focused on student achievement and continuous improvement
Assessment & Accountability
-
Serve as District Assessment Coordinator (DAC) or support that role
-
Oversee administration of state assessments, including SAT and PSAT
-
Monitor student performance data and guide instructional decision-making
-
Ensure compliance with all state accountability requirements
Academic Progress Systems
-
Oversee tracking of graduation requirements and student progress
-
Monitor postsecondary readiness indicators
-
Coordinate credit recovery opportunities (oversight of programs, not direct tracking)

Support alternative pathways and placement options for students
Programs & Student Opportunities

Oversee dual credit and early college opportunities
-
Support development and expansion of student programs, clubs, and organizations

Coordinate senior transition planning and postsecondary readiness initiatives

Approve extracurricular activities and ensure alignment with school expectations
School Operations & Culture

Lead scheduling for grades 6–12, including master schedule development

Oversee student discipline and implementation of the student handbook

Maintain a safe, structured, and positive school environment

Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families
Shared Leadership

Collaborate with the K–5 Principal, Assistant Principal/DPP, and Counselors to ensure K–12 alignment

Support shared athletic and extracurricular supervision

Participate in district leadership teams and strategic planning
Qualifications
-
Valid Kentucky Principal Certification (or eligibility)

Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field

Successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the secondary level preferred

Strong knowledge of graduation requirements, assessment systems, and college/career readiness

Experience with scheduling, discipline systems, and secondary programming
