Position: High School Fishing Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and Principal
Location: Burgin Independent School District
Job Summary
The High School Fishing Coach is responsible for developing, organizing, and leading the Burgin Independent High School Fishing Team. The coach will guide student-athletes in the sport of competitive bass fishing, promoting skill development, safety, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This position requires strong organizational skills, knowledge of fishing techniques, and a commitment to fostering both athletic and academic success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and direct all practices, competitions, and events for the fishing team.

Teach student-athletes proper fishing techniques, rules, and tournament strategies.

Ensure student safety on and off the water, with a focus on boating safety, equipment use, and environmental responsibility.

Coordinate and supervise transportation, lodging, and logistics for tournaments.

Maintain effective communication with student-athletes, parents, boat captains, school administration, and tournament officials.

Recruit and encourage student participation to sustain and grow the fishing program.

Oversee and care for team equipment, ensuring proper use and maintenance.

Ensure compliance with Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) regulations, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife guidelines, and Burgin Independent School District policies.

Model and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic accountability.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

Prior fishing experience required; tournament or coaching experience strongly preferred.

Valid Kentucky teaching certificate or KHSAA Coaching Certification (if not a certified teacher).

Strong knowledge of bass fishing rules, boating safety, and tournament procedures.

Effective communication and organizational skills.

CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and travel for competitions.

Position is part-time and supplemental; stipend provided according to district salary schedule.

Outdoor work is required, often in variable weather conditions.
