Job Title: School Webmaster
Location: Burgin Independent School
Reports To: Principal or Designated Administrator
Position Summary:
The School Webmaster at Burgin Independent School is responsible for designing, updating, and maintaining the school's website to ensure accurate, timely, and engaging communication with students, parents, staff, and the community. This role involves collaborating with various school departments to ensure the website reflects the school's programs, events, and achievements while maintaining compliance with accessibility and data privacy standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Website Management:
- Design, update, and maintain the school's official website to ensure accurate and current information.
- Ensure website navigation is user-friendly and accessible on various devices (e.g., computers, tablets, smartphones).
- Regularly review and update content, including announcements, calendars, staff directories, and academic resources.
- Ensure compliance with web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and district policies.
2. Content Creation and Coordination:
- Collaborate with administration, teachers, and staff to gather and post relevant content.
- Create and publish multimedia content (e.g., images, videos, documents) to highlight school events and initiatives.
- Manage and archive digital content to maintain a comprehensive historical record of school activities.
3. Technical Maintenance and Support:
- Monitor website performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate with external providers as needed.
- Ensure website security and privacy by implementing best practices and maintaining user permissions.
- Perform routine backups and updates to maintain site stability and functionality.
4. Communication and Outreach:
- Ensure timely posting of important announcements, school schedules, and emergency information.
- Support communication efforts by integrating website content with other school platforms (e.g., social media, newsletters).
- Respond to requests from staff and administration regarding website changes and updates.
5. Training and Support:
- Provide training and guidance to staff on how to submit content and utilize website features.
- Create documentation and resources to assist staff with basic web content management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in web design, communications, educational technology or related tech field preferred.
- Experience with website management systems (e.g., WordPress, Joomla, or similar CMS).
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or Canva).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing educational or nonprofit websites.
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG) and data privacy regulations (FERPA).
- Strong written communication skills and an understanding of best practices for digital content.
Work Schedule:
