Job Title: Elementary Special Education Teacher
Location: Burgin Independent School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary:
The Elementary Special Education Teacher at Burgin Independent School will provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. This role includes developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education teachers and families, and fostering a supportive learning environment to help students achieve academic and social success.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Instruction and Student Support:
- Plan and deliver specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals and Kentucky Academic Standards.
- Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Provide direct instruction in small group and one-on-one settings.
- Utilize evidence-based practices to promote student growth and independence.
2. IEP Development and Compliance:
- Collaborate with IEP teams to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Participate in IEP meetings and communicate effectively with parents/guardians and other stakeholders.
- Ensure all IEP services are delivered in accordance with legal requirements.
3. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with general education teachers to provide appropriate accommodations and modifications.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and goals.
- Collaborate with support staff and related service providers to meet the holistic needs of students.
- Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities, ensuring equitable access to education.
4. Classroom and Behavior Management:
- Implement positive behavior intervention strategies to support student success.
- Establish a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Monitor student behavior and apply appropriate interventions as needed.
5. Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices in special education and instructional methodologies.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities and district training sessions.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share strategies and improve instructional practices.
Qualifications:
- Valid Kentucky teaching certification in Special Education (LBD, MSD, or appropriate endorsement).
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP processes, and instructional best practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students with diverse learning needs.
- Proficiency with assistive technology and data-driven instructional practices.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position aligned with the school calendar.
