Location: Burgin Independent School (K–12 Campus)
Reports To: Superintendent


Position Overview

Burgin Independent School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered instructional leader to serve as Principal of Grades K–5. This position plays a critical role in shaping early learning experiences, building strong instructional systems, and ensuring every student develops the foundational skills necessary for long-term success.

The K–5 Principal leads elementary instruction, supports teachers, coordinates key programs, and fosters a positive, collaborative culture aligned with the district’s mission:
“To engage, enable, and empower students to become growing leaders for tomorrow.”


Primary Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership & Academic Systems

  • Lead all K–5 curriculum decisions and instructional practices

  • Ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment

  • Oversee development and implementation of pacing guides and instructional frameworks

  • Support high-quality teaching through coaching, feedback, and professional growth

  • Coordinate new teacher mentoring and support systems


Instruction & Staff Leadership

  • Conduct all K–5 certified staff evaluations

  • Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on student outcomes

  • Support implementation of research-based instructional practices (including Science of Reading and HQIR resources)

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration


Assessment & Accountability

  • Assist with district-wide assessment coordination and data analysis

  • Monitor student performance and guide instructional adjustments

  • Support accountability systems aligned with Kentucky standards and KSA expectations


Federal & State Program Oversight

  • Coordinate Title I programming and compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state education requirements


Early Learning Systems

  • Oversee preschool and kindergarten readiness programs

  • Support early childhood transitions (Pre-K → Kindergarten)

  • Lead primary literacy initiatives, including compliance with KRS 158.305

  • Monitor early literacy development and intervention effectiveness


Intervention Frameworks

  • Lead implementation of elementary RTI/MTSS systems

  • Oversee PBIS implementation and student behavior supports

  • Ensure effective academic and behavioral interventions for all students


School Operations & Culture

  • Assist with master scheduling and daily school operations

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging school environment

  • Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families

  • Support student discipline and extracurricular supervision as needed


Shared Leadership

  • Collaborate with the 6–12 Principal, Assistant Principal/DPP, and Counselors to ensure K–12 alignment

  • Participate in district leadership teams and strategic planning

  • Support school-wide initiatives and events


Qualifications

  • Valid Kentucky Principal Certification (or eligibility)

  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field

  • Successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the elementary level preferred

  • Strong knowledge of early literacy, intervention systems, and instructional best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and build positive school culture
