Job Title: Middle School ELA Teacher (Grades 7 & 8)
Location: Burgin Independent School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary: The Middle School ELA Teacher at Burgin Independent School will deliver high-quality English Language Arts instruction to students in grades 7 and 8. This position involves designing engaging lessons aligned with Kentucky Academic Standards, assessing student progress, and fostering a supportive environment that promotes literacy development and critical thinking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Instruction and Curriculum Implementation: - Plan and deliver rigorous and standards-based ELA instruction for grades 7 and 8. - Design and implement lessons that develop reading comprehension, writing skills, vocabulary, grammar, and critical analysis. - Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students. - Integrate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement.
2. Assessment and Data Analysis: - Create and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning. - Analyze student performance data to inform instructional practices and interventions. - Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to families.
3. Classroom Management: - Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and structured classroom environment. - Implement effective behavior management strategies to promote student engagement. - Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and academic excellence.
4. Collaboration and Communication: - Work collaboratively with colleagues to align curriculum and share best practices. - Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and classroom activities. - Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) and school-wide initiatives.
5. Professional Responsibilities: - Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and required documentation. - Engage in professional development to stay current with best practices in ELA instruction. - Participate in extracurricular activities, school events, and committees as required.
Qualifications: - Valid Kentucky teaching certification in Middle School English Language Arts (Grades 5-9) or Secondary English (Grades 8-12). - Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field. - Strong understanding of literacy development and instructional best practices. - Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Education, English, or a related field. - Experience teaching middle school ELA. - Proficiency in using technology to support learning and assessment.
Work Schedule: - Full-time position aligned with the school calendar.
