Job Title: Academic Team Coaches (Elementary, Middle, and High School)
Location: Burgin Independent School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary: The Academic Team Coach at Burgin Independent School will lead and manage the academic teams for elementary, middle, or high school. This role involves preparing students for academic competitions, fostering teamwork and intellectual growth, and coordinating practices and events. The coach will inspire a love for learning and competition while supporting students' academic development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership and Development: - Recruit, organize, and manage the academic team for the assigned grade level (elementary, middle, or high school). - Plan and lead regular practice sessions to prepare students for academic competitions. - Identify and develop students' strengths across competition subjects (e.g., math, science, language arts, social studies, etc.). - Foster a positive, encouraging, and collaborative team environment.
2. Competition Preparation and Participation: - Prepare students for local, regional, and state-level academic competitions. - Stay informed about competition formats, rules, and content areas. - Organize team participation in academic meets, including coordinating logistics and transportation. - Ensure students are well-prepared and represent Burgin Independent School with integrity and professionalism.
3. Communication and Collaboration: - Communicate effectively with team members, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, events, and expectations. - Collaborate with other academic coaches and staff to support interdisciplinary learning and skill development. - Provide regular updates on student progress and team performance.
4. Program Management: - Maintain accurate records of student participation, competition results, and team achievements. - Organize and manage team resources, including study materials and competition guides. - Assist in planning fundraising efforts and securing resources to support team activities if needed.
5. Professional Responsibilities: - Attend required meetings and professional development related to academic competitions. - Adhere to all school policies and guidelines regarding extracurricular activities. - Promote a culture of academic excellence and support the mission of Burgin Independent School.
Qualifications: - Valid Kentucky teaching certification (preferred but not required for all levels). - Strong content knowledge across academic subjects relevant to competition areas. - Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. - Ability to motivate and support students in a competitive academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications: - Prior experience coaching academic teams or leading student extracurricular programs. - Familiarity with Kentucky Governor’s Cup and other academic competition formats. - Demonstrated success in preparing students for academic competitions.
Work Schedule: - Part-time, seasonal position with flexible hours based on practice schedules and competition dates.
