Job Title: Middle School Science Teacher
Location: Burgin Independent School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary: The Middle School Science Teacher at Burgin Independent School will deliver engaging and standards-based science instruction to students in grades 6-8. This role involves creating dynamic lesson plans, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive and inquisitive learning environment that encourages scientific inquiry and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Instruction and Curriculum Implementation: - Plan and deliver science instruction aligned with Kentucky Academic Standards for middle school. - Design and implement hands-on laboratory experiences, demonstrations, and inquiry-based learning activities. - Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs and abilities. - Integrate technology and real-world applications to enhance student understanding of scientific concepts.
2. Assessment and Data Analysis: - Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning. - Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and provide targeted interventions. - Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and communicate progress with families.
3. Classroom Management: - Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and structured classroom environment. - Implement effective behavior management strategies that support student engagement and learning. - Foster a culture of curiosity, respect, and academic excellence.
4. Collaboration and Communication: - Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and share best practices. - Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians about student progress and classroom activities. - Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
5. Professional Responsibilities: - Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation. - Stay current with best practices and developments in science education. - Participate in school-wide initiatives, extracurricular activities, and committees as needed.
Qualifications: - Valid Kentucky teaching certification in Middle School Science (Grades 5-9) or Secondary Science (8-12). - Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field. - Strong knowledge of scientific content and inquiry-based instructional practices. - Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Education or a scientific discipline. - Experience teaching middle school science. - Proficiency in integrating technology and laboratory equipment into the classroom.
Work Schedule: - Full-time position aligned with the school calendar.
