Job Title: Intermediate ELA Teacher
Location: Burgin Independent School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary: The Intermediate ELA Teacher at Burgin Independent School will provide high-quality English Language Arts instruction to students in the intermediate grades. This position involves creating engaging lesson plans aligned with Kentucky Academic Standards, assessing student progress, and fostering a supportive learning environment to develop students' reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Instruction and Curriculum Implementation: - Plan and deliver standards-aligned ELA instruction that meets the diverse needs of intermediate-grade students. - Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies to develop reading comprehension, writing proficiency, vocabulary, and communication skills. - Differentiate instruction to accommodate a range of learning styles and abilities. - Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning.
2. Assessment and Data Analysis: - Design and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning. - Analyze student performance data to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions. - Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and communicate progress with families.
3. Classroom Management: - Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment. - Implement effective behavior management strategies to support student engagement and success. - Foster a classroom culture that promotes collaboration, inquiry, and academic excellence.
4. Collaboration and Communication: - Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and support student achievement. - Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities. - Participate in team meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and school-wide initiatives.
5. Professional Responsibilities: - Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation. - Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in ELA instruction. - Participate in school events, committees, and extracurricular activities as needed.
Qualifications: - Valid Kentucky teaching certification in Elementary Education (P-5) or Middle Grades English Language Arts (5-9). - Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field. - Strong understanding of literacy development and best practices in ELA instruction. - Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Education or English. - Experience teaching ELA at the intermediate level. - Proficiency in using technology to enhance instruction and assessment.
Work Schedule: - Full-time position aligned with the school calendar.
